EVENTS

On May 12th, the International Museum of Muslim Cultures (IMMC) recognized 17 years of impeccable groundbreaking service. We cordially invite you to celebrate this momentous occasion with a Saturday evening of conversation, entertainment and dinner at 6:00 pm at the Mississippi Museum of Arts, for our anniversary benefit dinner, and conversation on: “A New Mississippi” – Creating a cultural shift in racial equity and healing.
Since its exception in April 2001, IMMC, as America’s first Islamic Museum, has worked across the divide of race, class, culture and religion to bring people of different backgrounds together to understand our shared humanity, It has accomplished these goals through its physical museum in downtown Jackson and its traveling exhibits, which incorporate robust programming and educational opportunities. The museum has received over 100,000 visitors, developed world-class exhibitions established specialized curricula; celebrating the art, music, food, clothing and culture of over 20 countries; and is recognized nationally as a leading force of Islamic heritage education.
In 2017, IMMC recwived a three-year W.K. Kellogg Foundation grant focusing on utilizing the power of museum towards cross-racial heling, justice and human dignity. The grant partially funds the following three initiatives:
* Muslims with Christians and jews: An Exhibit of Covenants and Co-existence.
* The development of a strategic plan for the newly established Islamic Thought Institute (ITI) in partnership with Tougalloo and Millsaps Colleges.
* Host a national conference in Jackson on “Race, Class, and Religious Intersectionality in America: An Ongoing Struggle for Human Dignity.”
To continue to build on the amazing momentum we started, we need your help. Join us on May 12, as we present an evening of dining, entertainment, and enlightenment with diverse guests and speakers, including Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba acclaimed comedian, Azhar Uzman as they engage in conversation that bring about inclusion and and understanding.
